What To Do...

​​​Before

  • Have an emergency supply kit. Info on ​what to put in your kit can be found here.
  • Be sure to have your electronic devices such as cellphones and laptops charged so you can stay updated.
  • Fully winterize your vehicle and keep your gas tank at least half full to avoid ice in the tank and fuel lines​.
​​​

​During

  • Check for updates from your local emergency officials and your local weather sources.
  • When staying warm NEVER use a gas range or oven to heat your home. Turn off fireplaces & space heaters when you exit rooms.
  • Call and check on neighbors and bring indoor pets inside to stay warm.

After

  • ​If the power goes out, know how to contact your electric company. A list of Maryland’s popular electric companies can be found here.
  • Avoid overexertion when shoveling snow. Take frequent breaks and stay hydrated.
  • Stay off the roads if you can. If you HAVE to drive, let someone know your destination, your route, and when you expect to arrive​.
